Illinois Regional Cancer Center Acquires Cancer Targeting Tool
Ultrasound system provides pinpoint targeting for radiation treatment

Illinois Regional Cancer Center in DeKalb has enhanced its radiation oncology capability for the treatment of prostate cancer with the addition of a NOMOS® Radiation Oncology BAT® (B-mode Acquisition and Targeting) system.

BAT uses ultrasound-based technology to pinpoint tumor targets prior to a radiation therapy treatment. “With BAT, we can align patients at each treatment visit to the original treatment plan position. Patient alignment is critical to ensuring the exact targeting and treatment of tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissues, nerves and organs,” Dr. Bhate said.

BAT offers the potential for improved cancer cure rates by allowing the safe delivery of higher-dose radiation while simultaneously minimizing the risk of treatment-related complications.
