Balancing Life as a Caregiver {Noon - 1pm}

Join Val Heintz, Volunteer Coordinator at DeKalb County Hospice, to discuss how to:

Green Thumb Healing {3 - 5pm}
Gardening is very therapeutic. It can reduce stress and pain, increase physical activity, and instill feelings of hope. Take advantage of this opportunity to work with others in creating and maintaining the flower gardens this summer in the Healing Garden at The Cancer Center. Local experts also provide instruction on gardening topics. Participants should bring their own gardening tools. The gardens are maintained by the group on a volunteer basis throughout the summer and fall. For patients, caregivers and children impacted by cancer.
Imerman Angels {6:30 - 8 pm}
Keynote Speaker Jonny Imerman

Jonny Imerman is a 2-time young adult testicular cancer survivor. Jonny shares his cancer experience and explains why he built Imerman Angels to help others who fight cancer without the friendship of a survivor. Imerman Angels is a 1 on 1 peer cancer support organization that partners a person fighting cancer to a survivor who is the same age, same gender, and who has conquered the same disease.

Screening Guidelines with Dr. Siddiqui {6:30 - 7:30pm}

Numerous medical organizations have developed cancer screening guidelines. Appropriate screening increases the chances of detecting certain cancers early, when they are most likely to be curable. Oncologist Sabet Siddiqui, MD, discusses the types of tests doctors commonly use to look for and diagnose cancer, determine if it has spread, and monitor it during treatment.

The Imagine Workshop brings your story to life This interactive workshop is designed to help bring together children who share a common bond through cancer. Meet others who have experienced a similar journey. Through play and activities, participants laugh, heal, and create a memory book they and their families can find strength in for years to come. For ages 5 to 17.
The Late Effects of Chemotherapy with Dr. Memon {6:30 - 7:30pm}

It’s a well-known fact that chemotherapy drugs cause side effects. Some of these are temporary, but there may also be long term effects or even those that occur after completing chemotherapy. Join Oncologist M. Ishaqe Memon, MD, as he discusses fatigue, memory and concentration changes, neuropathy, and heart and lung problems.

Radiation therapy is commonly prescribed to treat many different types of cancers. Like all forms of therapy, radiation therapy has benefits as well as side effects. Join Oncologist, Amit Bhate, MD, as he explores the short and long term effects of radiation therapy. He also will explain the hospital’s low dose technology for PET/CT and CT.
